One time there were these three new workers, two were digging a ditch, while the third stood over them as the official supervisor.

After a while, one of the diggers said to the other, "Azar, why is it we'uns doin' the diggin' while he's up dere supvisin'? We's jest as smart as he is!"

Azar says, "I dunno, Ezekiel, ah's been tryin' to figger why dat is, too. Ah's gwine find out."

So Azar goes over to the supervisor and asks " We's wantin' to know why you'se up heah supvisin' while we's down dere digging the ditch. You's sho 'nuff no better than we is."

So the supervisor says, "That's because Ah has Smarts!"

"Smarts?" says Azar. "What's that?"

So the supervisor walks over to a tree and places his hand against it  and says to Azar, "Here, hit my hand."

Well, Azar rares back swings a mighty blow. But at the last second the supervisor moves his hand, and Azor nearly breaks his hand hitting the tree.

Azor says" Boy, youse right- you really does gots Smarts- you should be the Boss."

Then Azor goes back to the ditch, where Ezekiel asks him what he found out, and Azor replies, "He's up dere 'cause he's gots Smarts."

"Smarts?" Ezekiel asks. "What's that?"

With a wide grin, and a knowing expression on his face, Azor holds his hand up in front of his face and says, "Here, hit my hand."
